TBB Hangout 1 – Our Favourite WordPress Plugins

Carrie, Elizabeth and I have decided to join the video revolution (lol) and start doing hangouts!

Our TBB Facebook Group is bursting at the seams with just over 500 members as I type this. We’ve had some great conversations and LOTS of great questions going on, so we thought we’d take some of those questions and start doing Hangouts to talk about what we’ve learned.

Hopefully soon we’ll be able to get a set weekly schedule for these and maybe even some guests, but for now, we’re just experimenting to see how it all works out for us and for you!

These are all the plugins we talk about in the video. Some we all use and some we each use a different version that does the same thing.

Akismet – Please, please, please take the 5 minutes it takes to figure this one out. It will drastically reduce your spam.

Ad Injection – This one allows you to put in ads (or take them out) where ever you want.

Comment Luv – Allows people who leave comments to add a link back to their latest post.

Comment Reply Notification – Sends an email to the original commenter when you respond to their comment.

WordPress SEO by Yoast – Helps you to make sure you’ve gotten all that you need for optimum SEO.

Nofollow – Allows you to easily change links to “nofollow” so Google doesn’t ding you for having unnecessary links.

Google Analytics – Puts the code in that allows them to track your traffic.

nRelate/Thumbnail – Puts a list of related posts at the bottom of each post to help keep people on your site.

Wordfence – Free security plugin, but you can upgrade to the paid version for more options. Elizabeth uses Securi though and pays for their options.

Social Share – Sarah uses Simple Share Button Adder, Carrie uses Shareaholic and Elizabeth uses Po.st. These all do the same basic thing.

Tweet Old Posts – Just what it says.

PinIt– Adds a Pin It button to your images to make it easier to pin them to Pinterest.

Hello Bar – Adds a bar at the top of your site that you can use to capture email address, FB likes or Pinterest followers.

Google Fonts – Loads the exact fonts that you want the reader to see no matter if they have that font loaded on their computer or not.

WP Smush. It – Reduces the size of images to make your site load faster.

Genesis Favicon Uploader – Adds the favicon in the browser bar to help brand you.

WP Touch Mobile – Since 50% of readers use some kind of mobile device you want to know exactly what they’re seeing (Carrie is the only one that uses this. We have Genesis and Thesis themes and they are naturally mobile ready, but she wants to make sure.)

Easy Recipe – Makes recipes easily printable.

I hope this was helpful. We REALLY enjoyed doing it and are looking forward to more!

Please leave a comment and let us know if you have any topics you’d like to see us cover in future Hangouts!
