Since we’ve been talking about how to add ads and write sponsored posts lately on The Blogging Bunch, I wanted to make sure that you add a disclosure statement properly to the top of your posts to disclose your affiliate links or your connection to any brands.
You can read more about the specific FTC requirements on this BlogHer post. They recommend that you put a brief note at the top of your post and then explain more about the details at the bottom.
This is how we disclose here on The Blogging Bunch and what each of us does on our own personal blogs.
It sounds like a pain, but there is a short cut that can help you to easily add a disclosure to the top of all your posts.
If You Use Genesis Framework…
Install the plugin Genesis Simple Hooks.
Then on the left hand side of your dashboard, click on Genesis and then Simple Hooks.
Scroll down about half way and you’ll see “genesis_before_post_content Hook”.
Paste this code in the box under those words:
This article may include a provided product or affiliate link. See footer for full details.
Now you should see these words at the top of each of your posts.
Don’t forget to explain the details in the footer too.
If you use Thesis Framework…
The plugin is called Open Hook. You place your disclosure in the “thesis_hook_after_headline” box.
Did it work for you?
